(MERCED) – Riding an unprecedented surge of support and enthusiasm for his candidacy for the U.S House of Representatives, Adam Gray (D-Merced) reported that his supporters had raised more than $500,000 for his campaign during the first quarterly federal reporting period for California’s new 13th Congressional District (“CD13”).
Gray is the leading candidate in the race to represent CD13 in Washington, D.C. Redrawn following the 2020 Census, the vast district stretches from Coalinga in southwest Fresno County all the way into San Joaquin County and includes much of Gray’s current 21st Assembly District.
“It’s hard to be exhilarated and humbled at the same time,” said Gray, “but that’s how it feels. I’m excited that so many people support what we’re trying to accomplish. There’s so much that needs to be done to help our Valley. That people are entrusting this work to me is, well, humbling.”
In the ten weeks since the announcement of his candidacy, the Gray campaign received donations and support from a broad range of individuals and organizations. More importantly, he has been endorsed by physicians, school teachers, farm workers, police officers, small business owners, firefighters, members of labor unions and dozens of individuals who have been elected to represent their communities on school boards, city councils, irrigation districts, boards of supervisors and special districts. His endorsements include those on both sides of the political divide and feature both California U.S. Senators, U.S. Representative Jim Costa, and Sheriffs Vern Warnke, Jeff Dirkse, and Margaret Mims, among more than 300 others.
“This is a great start,” said Gray spokesman Mike Lynch. “It builds on ten years of elected service with dozens of measurable and important accomplishments. It proves that the voters within the district embrace Adam Gray’s leadership style, commitment and dedication to our area. And it doesn’t hurt that he has had a real impact on so many lives.”
Lynch went on to point out that two-thirds of the voters in the new Congressional District live within Gray’s current Assembly District.
“The people know Adam, they trust Adam and they’re supporting Adam,” said Merced County Supervisor Josh Pedrozo. “When we sent him to Sacramento, Adam got the job done and never forgot us and never let us down. That’s why we’re sending him to Washington.”
There are five candidates running to represent the 13th Congressional District, but Gray is the only candidate who actually lives in the district. The primary election is scheduled for June 7 with mail-in ballots arriving to voters as early as May 9. The top two candidates advance to the general election in November. Voting will begin a month in advance of the election.

Adam Gray is running to represent California’s 13th Congressional District in Congress, which includes all of Merced County and portions of Fresno, Madera, Stanislaus, and San Joaquin Counties. He currently serves in the California State Assembly, representing all of Merced County and part of Stanislaus County.
